Marc Jacobs Daisy: why a light, fresh eau de toilette became a classic, and what to expect from how long it lasts
Daisy is bright, fresh and light on purpose. Why it became a classic, and why it fades faster than people expect.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau de Toilette
Daisy came out in 2007 and has been one of the best-selling fragrances in the country more or less ever since. It is easy to see why, and it is also easy to be disappointed by it if you expect the wrong thing.
The notes
Retail listings give it a top of strawberry, violet leaf and ruby red grapefruit; a heart of violet, jasmine and gardenia; and a base of musk, vanilla and white woods.
Grapefruit and violet leaf at the top give a sharp, green, juicy start. The flowers in the heart are soft rather than heady. And the base is the quiet, clean kind: musk and pale woods with a little vanilla for warmth.
Why it works
Daisy is a fragrance that is hard to dislike. It is fresh without smelling like soap, floral without being old-fashioned, and sweet without being sugary. That is why it is so often someone's first fragrance and so often a gift. It suits daytime, warm weather, offices and school.
The catch: it is an eau de toilette
Daisy is an eau de toilette, the lighter of the common concentrations, and its notes are bright, light materials that evaporate faster than heavy ones. So it will not last as long as a dense vanilla or amber. Expect it to sit close to the skin after the first couple of hours.
That is not a fault; it is the design. We explain the difference between the concentrations in EDT, EDP and parfum measure concentration, not quality.
Making it last
Apply to moisturized skin, because fragrance holds longer on skin that is not dry. Spray clothes or a scarf as well as skin; fabric holds scent longer than skin does. And carry a small decant or travel spray rather than spraying more at the start of the day.
Who it suits
Someone who wants a fresh, pretty, easy fragrance for every day, and someone buying for a teenager or a first fragrance. It is a weak choice for someone who wants a scent that is noticed across a room at night.
Before you buy
Daisy is heavily counterfeited because it sells so well. Check who is selling and shipping it.
What it will not do
It will not project strongly or last all day on most people. It will not suit someone who loves deep, warm scents. And it will not smell exactly like the other Daisy flankers; Daisy Love, Daisy Dream and the rest are different fragrances with a family name.
The original Daisy eau de toilette: fresh fruit, soft flowers and a clean musky base, light by design.
