ANUA PDRN Hyaluronic Acid 100 Cream
Look down Amazon's best sellers in beauty this week and PDRN is everywhere: masks, serums, balm sticks, eye patches and this moisturizer, one of the highest-ranked of them all. It is the ingredient of the moment in Korean skincare. Here is how to think about buying it.
What PDRN is, and what the evidence covers
PDRN is a DNA fragment, usually from salmon, with a clinical history as an injectable treatment. We explained it in what PDRN actually is. The short version: the strongest evidence comes from putting it under the skin, not from creams applied to the surface. In a moisturizer, PDRN is the least-proven ingredient, not the most.
The listing's own claims are careful, which is to its credit: it describes the PDRN as helping maintain long-lasting hydration and a healthy, natural glow, rather than making bigger promises.
The better reasons to buy it
The texture. According to the listing, it is lightweight and fast-absorbing, non-sticky with a silky finish, and made not to pill under makeup. Pilling — moisturizer rolling into little balls when foundation goes on top — is a genuine daily annoyance, and a cream designed to avoid it is a real benefit. We explained why pilling happens in silicone primer, water-based primer, and the reason things pill.
The hydration. Hyaluronic acid is in the name, and it does what we described in a hyaluronic acid serum: draws water into the skin's surface. In a cream, it comes with something to hold that water in.
The listing says it has been tested as non-comedogenic and is suitable for breakout-prone skin.
How to use it
As the last step of your routine, morning and night, according to the listing, after cleansing and toning; in the morning, before sunscreen. A light cream like this suits normal, combination and oily skin as a daily moisturizer. Very dry skin may want something richer at night.
On buying into a trend
Trending ingredients sell fast and are usually the least studied part of a formula. That does not make this a bad cream; it means the reasons to buy it are the ordinary ones — texture, hydration, how it sits under makeup — and the PDRN is a possible bonus.
What it will not do
It will not do what PDRN injections do. It will not replace sunscreen or a retinoid for long-term changes to the skin. And it will not be rich enough on its own for very dry skin in winter.
