Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream

As the weather turns dry, a plain, rich barrier cream climbs Amazon's beauty chart: Illiyoon's Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream, a Korean favourite made for dry, sensitive skin on the face and body, for the whole household.

The barrier trio

The skin's outer layer is held together by three kinds of fat: ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol. When they are depleted — by cold, wind, hot showers or harsh products — water escapes and skin becomes dry, tight and quick to react. According to the listing, this cream supplies all three in balance, with plant-derived ceramides, in a low-pH formula.

It is the same principle as AESTURA's barrier cream, which we looked at before. Supplying all three lipids together, rather than ceramides alone, is the better-supported approach.

Reading the big numbers

The listing quotes striking figures: hydration up 328% right after applying, still up 85% after 72 hours and 57% after 100 hours, and large reductions in sensitivity and discomfort.

Hydration percentages like these are usually measured on the skin's surface against untreated skin. Almost any good moisturizer shows a big jump in the first minutes, so the headline number says little on its own. The more meaningful part of a claim like this is how long the effect lasts — and a rich, occlusive barrier cream holding hydration for days is plausible. Treat the exact percentages as the brand's own results.

Face and body, whole family

The listing describes it as suitable for the whole family, including babies, and for face and body. A big tub of one gentle barrier cream that everyone can use is a practical buy for a dry house in winter — elbows, hands, shins, cheeks.

How to use it

On slightly damp skin after washing or showering, when it does the most good. On the face, a thin layer at night, or in the morning under sunscreen if your skin is very dry. On the body, after a lukewarm shower — see humectants, occlusives, and the three minutes after a shower.

Who it suits

Dry and very dry skin, sensitive skin, skin that gets tight and flaky in winter, and families who want one cream for everyone. It may feel heavy on oily skin, particularly on the face in warm weather.

What it will not do

It will not settle a skin condition that needs a doctor; persistent rash, scaling or itching should be looked at. It will not suit oily skin that prefers gels. And it will not work if whatever is drying your skin — hot water, harsh soap — continues.

The product

A rich, plant-ceramide barrier cream for face and body, in Amazon's top beauty sellers this week, sold by Illiyoon's US store when we checked.

The one people are searching for is the Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream.
